An opinion piece

In a perfect environment, design is about design. This means, form meets function, golden rules, dynamic shapes, impactful typography, pleasing animations, memorable branding, scintillating colors.

In their 2004 book Design is One, Lella & Massimo Vignelli wrote:

“The basic concept is that the discipline of design is one, and if you can design one thing you can design everything. The methodology is the same no matter what the subject.”

However, technology has changed everything. There is no longer only one methodology, one discipline, one product design cycle.

In today’s world, the majority of design is digitally content-driven and data-sourced. We want stories, narratives, heroes, places, quick shopping, deliveries, community chats, sharing, messaging, video streaming, audio books, data resources. AI has entered the design world as well.

Furthermore, as users, we want to multi-task. We want to run and listen to the podcast, study and look at text messages, cook and view videos.
