Interesting topic on Machiavelli. He is definitely on my list of historical reads. Another super-interesting book I recommend reading about the sparring political factions of Florence during the Renaissance is Joseph Lizzy's book "Botticelli's Secret". Not so much about Machiavelli, but the ever-lasting Dante and his political exile from Florence, and how Florence became a city of great influence, producing political figures such as Machiavelli.
