How I craft my story one sticky note at a time
Finding the ideation flow with mini drawings
Working on a short essay this morning, I struggle to find the story. I didn’t sleep much the night before. Nothing in particular and everything at once made me wake up in the early hours.
I’m not exactly in a flow state.
As a creator, I project into space. I look outwards to find the nugget. Like a gold digger, I consume data, read through papers, scan visuals, build lists. I try to compile the story, find the thread.
While this might lead to some liking of something or someone, the golden nugget of a captivating story plot remains elusive.
As I dig deeper and deeper into fragments of information, I only discover breadcrumbs.
A thought occurs to me.
It’s not possible to find my thread like this. Creating does not come from projecting, but rather from doing.
I let it go and start new with a different approach.
A fresh start
I let go of my thinking and researching baggage.
I pick up my pencil. I start to draw. On a yellow sticky note.
