How Gotham does the holidays

Every year, right around this time, something shifts in Gotham. Maybe it’s the chillier gusts off the Atlantic coast ostentatiously exhaling through the avenues, or possibly, it’s the ever louder-blasting sirens, magnified delivery truck rumbles, and a cacaphony of horns announcing the coming month of super-activity.

One thing is clear.

The holidays have arrived.

Call them what you will, these days between now and January 2nd are taking over everyone’s schedule.

It’s all about anticipation

Announcements for December events arrive in the mailbox, children’s secret wishes are scribbled down on notepads, and thoughts of what to give to one’s favorite aunt and uncle are given particular close scrutiny.

Time to get in the mood and check on this year’s themes. For that, holiday research starts with a stroll along midtown Fifth Avenue, with of course, Rockefeller Center as the kick-off point.

As is well known, New Yorkers will spend an exorbitant amount of time staring expectantly into shop windows to check on the current state of affairs.
