Hi Hilla
That's an interesting point.
What I mean is that as designers and artists, we create and invent styles as we advance in our careers as artists. That is based on drawing, painting, doing sculpture, modeling, etching, carving, and so many other techniques. It is based on work that we perform by hand.
On the other hand, AI-generated art is generative, it is based on a style of art from an artists or an entire movement that already exist. So we don't create that style, we refer to it as an AI-style prompt. This makes the AI-generative image a derivative of sorts, a digital artwork that exists because the artists or designers have already created the foundational style.
Looking at AI-generative art from this angle means, in my opinion, that as designers and artists, we can never really create a truly inventive and new art object that can define art history. So we must look at AI-generated art from that angle and be aware of that.
