Great article. It's important to understand for everyone working in the tech field that skills change, accounts and products evolve, companies change, consumer tastes change.

I always felt that working within tech, change is the only constant. Being aware that some day we might get RIF'ed should be standard learning in college.

It happens to everyone, and I mean everyone, regardless of position. Yes, there is no shame in it when you are the employee. The onus is on the company leaders who underestimate and undervalue the assets they have in their employee-base. Valuable employees could easily get re-organized and receive training to fulfill new roles within the company to keep it thriving.

But tech culture is fast and furious, and only niche super-skills are considered valid.
