Great analysis.

I've been using Duolingo for about a month, and stopped. I deleted the app. I started a math course for fun. After a while the program got so stupid. It's the same low-grade problem-solving over and over again. And then there are the dings on my text that feel like Mr. MathProf is coming after me to click -3 + (-3) = -6, and if I don't drop everything to click that answer, I'll get an F.

Then, supposedly, I hit a streak, and all these other gaming apps popped up as advertisements. And no, thank you very much, I don't want to spend my day playing Tetris over and over again.

While the intent of Duolingo was probably good at the launch, the implementation is horrendous. I'm going back to books.

Thanks for sharing.
