Designing for fabulous Pride
The rainbow of all rainbows
A series on Pride design
June is Pride month, a month of celebration with the LGBTQ community and their friends all over the world. Pride is an infinite love poem, written and read everywhere where the community’s energy is experienced.
Designing for Pride is immensely joyful. The palettes of colors abound in expressive combinations, all emanating from the most famous original rainbow flag presented by the artist Gilbert Baker at the San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978.[1]
Baker’s rainbow colors have since become the symbol of pride worldwide.
Since 1978, many rainbow flag colors have emerged, all inspired by Baker’s original idea. Many color palettes express different communities within Pride, all amazingly beautiful.[2]
Pride values
Pride embraces a multitude of fundamental values of humanity. Community, culture, respect, diversity, excellence, solidarity, safety, and love are all part of Pride.
